A Mandlebulb3D Fractal by SyntheticMemory.

Please use full-view or download as the image looks incredibly small and cramped if you're not running at my screen resolution. I'll assume that the vast majority of you are not.

This is my second time experimenting with a wonderful little fractal generation program called Mandelbulb 3d. The results came out far better than expected this time.

The quick and dirty of it is that I needed a 5760x1080 wallpaper for my three-screen eyefinity setup, and wallpapers of this size are slim pickings everywhere. I decided that I would make one, instead.

I created the lighting within the program, and used it's built-in raytracing renderer. It took about five hours, in total, to render at 20,000px x 3,750px, I spent about two hours tinkering with the colouration and another hour fine-tuning the position of the lights. I exported the Z-Buffer (Depth Buffer) as an image, and loaded both up in the GIMP to apply a lens blur (depth-of-field) using the Z-Buffer as a reference. This is how I got the rather photorealistic depth-of-field in the image.

Any comments/critiques from more experienced three-dimensional or fractal artists would be wonderful. I've just rediscovered fractals and any tips or tricks would be wonderful information to have.

There are a couple of minor problems with this one, but I won't point them out for y'all. ;)

Enjoy.

I'm not quite running your resolution, but it's close enough for me to download and use this anyway :la:
